Marc Quinn’s latest exhibition Drawn From Life, on display at Sir John Soane’s Museum until 23 September, addresses some of the themes at the core of the Modern Classicisms project. Quinn’s series of statues (with the title ‘All About Love’) nestle for attention among the relics of Soane’s house. The life-cast statues pay homage to Graeco-Roman sculptural traditions, not least in their attention to naturalistic detail. But their fragmentary appearance also speaks in a distinctly modern idiom – alluding to a sense of loss, ephemerality and an ambiguity of posture.

Marc Quinn will be involved in various Modern Classicisms initiatives at King’s during the 2017–2018 academic year. We are delighted that Marc will be taking part in our opening workshop, which launches the project, on Friday 10th November WORKSHOP the day will feature an interview with the artist’s on the theme of the ‘Fragmentary’, and among other discussants will be Bruce Boucher (Director of the Soane Museum).

The Sir John Soane Museum can be visited free of charge – and is a mere 10-minute walk from the Strand Campus at King’s. Drawn from Life can be seen until 23 September 2017.
